SIX DAYS TO GO

Okay, here we are.

Monday morning. Six days until the first Truth Party rally.

And I’ve got to tell you—I’m excited.

For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been all over town.

Coffee shops. Fire stations. Businesses. Breweries. Talking to anybody who’ll listen.

And occasionally people who clearly didn’t want to listen.

That’s democracy.

You don’t have to agree with me. You just have to let me finish before you run away.

But something interesting has happened.

I’ve made a lot of friends.

I’ve talked to Republicans.

I’ve talked to Democrats.

I’ve talked to independents.

I’ve talked to people who haven’t voted in years.

And you know what I haven’t heard very much?

“Everything’s great. Don’t change a thing.”

Nobody’s saying that.

People know something isn’t working.

They might disagree about what isn’t working.

They definitely disagree about who screwed it up.

But there’s a remarkable amount of agreement that we can do better.

And that’s where the Truth Party comes in.

So today I’m changing gears.

I’m not going out with a giant political pitch.

I’m not going to explain a 47-point platform to somebody who’s just trying to get a cappuccino.

Today I’m inviting people.

That’s it.

“Hey, remember that crazy guy you talked to about starting a political movement?”

“Well, the crazy guy actually did it.”

We’re meeting Sunday.

Come see what this is about.

Bring your husband.

Bring your wife.

Bring your neighbor.

Hell, bring the Republican down the street you’ve been arguing with for eight years.

Especially bring that guy.

Because that’s the whole point.

I don’t want the Truth Party to become another room where everybody already agrees with everybody.

We’ve got plenty of those.

I want a room where people who don’t agree can still sit down together.

Because somewhere along the way, America developed this ridiculous idea that if somebody disagrees with you politically, they must be stupid, evil—or both.

That’s bullshit.

They’re your neighbors.

They’re the people standing next to you at the grocery store.

They’re coaching your grandkids.

They’re fixing your car.

They’re putting out your house when it’s on fire.

We’re already living together.

Maybe we should start talking to each other again.

And that’s what Sunday is about.

This isn’t some giant national political convention.

CNN isn’t coming.

I don’t think Anderson Cooper has cleared his schedule.

It’s just people getting together.

And that’s exactly how I want it.

Because movements don’t start with millions of people.

They start with one person.

Then two.

Then ten.

Then somebody tells somebody else.

And eventually people realize:

Wait a minute. We’re not alone.

So that’s my mission today.

I’m going out.

I’m meeting people.

I’m sending invitations.

I’m shaking hands.

I’m having conversations.

And I’m asking people to do one incredibly complicated political act:

Show up.

That’s it.

You don’t have to become a Democrat.

You don’t have to become a Republican.

Hell, you don’t even have to become a member of the Truth Party.

Just become a citizen.

Come out.

Meet somebody.

Ask a question.

Listen.

Participate.

Because we’ve spent enough time sitting on the couch watching other people run our country.

The spectators have had a hell of a run.

Now it’s the citizens’ turn.

Six days.

Sunday.

Don’t just watch.

SHOW UP.

Let’s see what happens.
