Donald Trump just renamed Lake Ontario.
Lake America.
I’m serious.
Apparently, with everything going on in this country, somebody looked at the presidential to-do list and said, “You know what America really needs? We gotta straighten out these lakes.”
And I’ve got questions.
What happens to Lake Erie? Lake Freedom?
Lake Superior? Obviously Lake Tremendous.
And Canada geese? Sorry. Those are Donald Ducks now.
But here’s why this actually matters.
I’ve been traveling around talking to ordinary people and asking them one simple question:
What worries you most about where this country is headed?
And overwhelmingly, they tell me: the economy.
They’re worried about groceries. Housing. Healthcare. Their jobs. Their kids’ futures.
Nobody—not one person—has grabbed me by the shoulders and said:
“John, for God’s sake, DO SOMETHING ABOUT LAKE ONTARIO!”
This is exactly what’s wrong with our politics.
We keep getting handed distractions while ordinary Americans are asking for solutions.
So maybe Washington should stop renaming the lakes…
…and start listening to the people who live around them.
That’s what I’m doing.
