Three days from now, we’re holding the first Truth Party rally.

And today?

I’m not doing a damn thing for it.

No flyers. No posters. No videos. No worrying about how many people are going to show up.

Because today I’m reminded of something much bigger than politics.

Service.

I’m headed to Raleigh to volunteer with the Lung Cancer Initiative. After that, I’m driving to Norfolk to see my son and his family before they leave for Spain, where he’ll begin his final tour of duty in the United States Navy.

And somewhere between those two things, it hit me:

This is what citizenship actually looks like.

It isn’t a bumper sticker.
It isn’t arguing with strangers on Facebook.
And it sure as hell isn’t sitting on the couch yelling at the television.

It’s showing up.

For your community.
For your family.
For people you’ve never met.

Maybe we’ve spent so much time asking, “What am I getting?” that we’ve forgotten to ask a much better question:

“What can I give?”

A few hours.
A helping hand.
A ride.
A conversation.
Your experience.
Your attention.

You don’t have to change the whole world today.

Just make your little corner of it better.

That’s service.

That’s citizenship.

And ultimately, that’s what the Truth Party is about.

Stop being a spectator. Start being a citizen.
